JOHN CARLO BELLOTTI is a Scottish Italian born in Glasgow.
After studying music at Napier University, Edinburgh, John Carlo went on to graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Whilst at the RNCM, John Carlo was involved in many productions which include: Verdi's Ernani and Don Carlo; Donizetti's Roberto Deveroux and Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
John Carlo also sang the roles of Don Basilio in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Parpignol in Puccini's La Bohème, Bajazet in Handel's Tammerlano and was the tenor soloist in the world première of Nicola Lefanu's opera The Story of Mary O'Neil which was broadcast live by BBC Radio 3.
After graduating from RNCM John Carlo embarked upon a busy freelance career singing many roles including: il consigliere in Cesti's baroque opera Il Pom d'oro for Musica nel Chiostro Festival di Opera Italia, the seaman in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde and Senitore in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra, the latter two being for the Osterfestspiele Salzburg with the Berlin Philarmonica conducted by maestro Claudio Abbado. These were also broadcast live on Austrian radio.
In 1999 John Carlo joined Scottish Opera where he has sung many roles and covers for the company which include: Landlord / 1st footman in Strauss's opera Der Rosenkavalier, 1st italian servant in the world première of the Sally Beamish opera Monster, Monostatos in Mozart's opera The Magic Flute, and as a tenor soloist in the concert series.
For the Edinburgh International Festival John Carlo has sung as a soloist in the Richard Strauss opera Capriccio. This was also recorded by BBC Radio.
Other roles include Don Jose in Bizet's Carmen, Count Almaviva in Rossini's The Barber of Seville and Calaf in Puccini's Turandot.
For nearly four years John Carlo toured the many theatres of Scotland, the north of England and surrounding islands including performing at The Isle of Man Music Festival with his tenor group.
Oratorio work includes: Handel's Messiah, Haydn's The Creation, Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius, Rossini's Stabat Mater, the Mozart Requiem, the Verdi Requiem, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle and Messe di Gloria by Puccini.
John Carlo now lives with his partner Elaine and children in Auchterarder in Perthshire, Scotland.
